Dear all,
Chelsea and I did this last year and it was a great experience. The
students are very motivated and ask a lot of questions. They come in
during the day, so we just gave them a mini-talk and showed them the
telescope. Please let me know if anyone is interested in participating
next March!
Thanks,
Elisa

Dear Lab Tour Host,

We would like to cordially invite you to participate in our annual Young
Women's Conference on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 9AM until 2PM on
Princeton University’s main campus. The Young Women's Conference aims to
both expose young women to the wide variety of scientific occupations
available to them and encourage them to pursue the education and careers
in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We do this through
interactive exhibits and presentations given by female scientists!

Registration begins at 8:00 AM. The conference lasts from 9AM until 2PM.

Our conference goals include:

• Increasing young women’s interest in science, technology, mathematics
and engineering

• Providing students an opportunity to meet women working in traditional
and non-traditional fields

• Fostering an awareness of the variety of career opportunities
available to women

We have an exciting and informative day planned. The students will have
an opportunity to meet female scientists and have informal discussions
about their scientific career paths. We anticipate 375 young women from
grades 7 through 10. Participants will come from schools throughout New
Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. For more information, visit the YWC’s
webpage at _http://www.pppl.gov/www.pppl.gov-YWC_

As a tour host, we would like to ask you or someone in your lab (such
as a grad student or post-doc) to host small groups of young women in
your laboratory or place of work from 9:00 AM until 11:45 AM (groups of
about 25 young women and chaperones). You could discuss your career as
a scientist or engineer, your interest in science, and the type of
science that you do as you lead the students through a tour of your
facility. Each tour should last a maximum of 20 minutes. After the
final session, you are invited to eat lunch in an informal setting with
the last group of young women in the Jadwin Gym lobby area. Volunteers
will escort the groups to and from the Frick Chemistry Building
throughout the morning, so you can remain in your laboratory!

We believe that you will make an excellent addition to the program.
